Whisker Launches AI-Powered Litter-Robot 5 Pro

Whisker, the pet-technology company behind the Litter-Robot line, is expanding the automated litter box from a convenience appliance into a health-monitoring device. Tracking bathroom frequency, weight and behavioral patterns could help owners detect potential health changes earlier, making reliable identification particularly important in homes where several cats share the same unit.

The company’s latest premium model, the Litter-Robot 5 Pro, combines two cameras, an array of sensors, machine-learning algorithms and feline facial recognition to assign litter-box activity to individual pets. Testing, however, found that the system could misidentify cats in a multi-cat household and effectively swap their profiles, highlighting a key limitation in the device’s AI-based monitoring.
