Variational Raises $50 Million in Series A, Launches Gold and Silver RWA Perpetuals

2 reports · First detected 2026-05-21 · Last active 2026-05-21

Variational is an on-chain derivatives protocol built on Arbitrum that uses peer-to-peer quoting and cross-margining for perpetual futures trading. Real-world asset perpetuals bring the prices of traditional assets such as gold and crude oil into DeFi, allowing investors to take long or short positions around the clock without holding the physical assets. They also help address insufficient liquidity in new markets.

On May 20, 2026, Variational announced that it had raised about $50 million in a Series A round led by Dragonfly, with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Coinbase Ventures and others. The same day, it launched the first phase of its RWA market, covering gold, silver, copper and WTI crude oil. Since entering closed beta in January 2025, the platform has recorded more than $200 billion in cumulative trading volume and over 50,000 accounts.
