UPS AI Agents Automate 90% of Daily Customs Clearances

The end of the U.S. duty-free exemption for low-value parcels sharply increased the customs burden on cross-border delivery networks, forcing carriers to process far more declarations without slowing shipments. UPS has deployed AI agents to review shipment data and advance customs filings, illustrating how logistics operators are using automation to absorb policy-driven volume shocks and reduce their dependence on manual screening.

UPS said the policy change drove its customs-clearance workload to 10 times the previous level. AI agents now clear about 90% of packages handled each day without human intervention, helping the company ease a potential cross-border bottleneck and accelerate reviews. UPS did not disclose the rollout date, the number of parcels processed daily or the amount invested in the system.
