OpenAI Opens ChatGPT Health to All U.S. Adults

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health on Jan. 7, 2026, initially offering the dedicated experience to a small group of users seeking help with medical and wellness questions. The product addresses fragmented information across patient portals, health apps and wearables, allowing ChatGPT to interpret personal data with permission. More than 300 million people now ask ChatGPT health-related questions each week, raising the stakes for accuracy, privacy and appropriate escalation while positioning AI as a supplement, rather than a replacement, for professional care.

On July 23, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out Health to logged-in U.S. users aged 18 and older across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans on the web and iOS. Users can connect Apple Health and medical records from supported hospital systems, including providers using Epic, to personalize answers about lab results, medications, diet, sleep and activity. GPT-5.5 Instant powers access for free users, while GPT-5.6 Sol offers paid users stronger performance on complex health questions. OpenAI said connected health data will not be used to train foundation models or target advertising.
