OpenAI Opens ChatGPT Health to All U.S. Adults

OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Health on January 7, 2026, initially as a limited, dedicated space where users could combine medical records and wellness data with ChatGPT conversations. The service is designed to explain lab results, help prepare for appointments and inform diet or exercise decisions, not diagnose or replace clinicians. Its expansion matters because OpenAI says more than 300 million people now ask ChatGPT health-related questions each week, intensifying scrutiny of accuracy, privacy and accountability as consumer AI moves closer to patient records.

On July 23, OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Health to logged-in U.S. users aged 18 and older on Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, covering the web and iOS; full availability may take several weeks. Users can authorize access to Apple Health and supported records from systems including Epic and Oracle Health. OpenAI said GPT‑5.5 Instant has improved at recognizing urgent-care needs and seeking context, while GPT‑5.6 Sol performs better on complex health tasks. The company says connected data is not used to train foundation models and cautions that ChatGPT does not replace medical care.
