FIS Sees $1 Trillion Agentic Commerce Opportunity, Calls for Stronger AI Payments Governance

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-29 · Last active 2026-04-29

Financial technology provider FIS, or Fidelity National Information Services, said AI agents can search, compare options and complete payments on consumers' behalf, turning payments from one-off transactions into relationship-based services built on continuous interaction. This form of “agentic commerce” involves autonomous algorithmic decisions, making transparency, accountability and consumer trust increasingly important.

FIS's latest forecast says agentic commerce could generate $1 trillion in retail revenue by 2030, but the market cannot advance on technological promises alone. FIS called on the industry to establish verifiable AI governance frameworks, clearly explain how agents select products and payment methods, and maintain decision records to reduce the risks of bias, fraud and unauthorized transactions.
