Cloudflare Accelerates Post-Quantum Migration, Targets 2029 Completion

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-08 · Last active 2026-04-08

Today's internet communications rely on conventional public-key cryptography to protect data and verify identities. But if quantum computing crosses the threshold for practical use, it could break existing safeguards on a so-called “Q-Day.” Cloudflare is therefore pursuing a migration to post-quantum cryptography to reduce the long-term risk that sensitive data could be intercepted now and decrypted later.

Cloudflare has announced a sharply accelerated timetable for its post-quantum security migration, aiming to complete a comprehensive upgrade by 2029. The effort covers both data encryption and identity authentication. The related post-quantum protections will be available free of charge to customers on all plans, allowing businesses to address quantum threats without paying extra.
