Official Swift Extension Launches on Open VSX With Support for Cursor and Other AI Editors

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-10 · Last active 2026-04-10

Apple created Swift and continues to invest in it, but the language’s development experience has historically centered on Xcode. The Open VSX Registry is a neutral marketplace hosted by the Eclipse Foundation and compatible with the VS Code extension interface. The official extension gives tools including Cursor and VSCodium direct access to Swift support, marking a significant step for cross-platform and AI-assisted development.

On April 8, 2026, Swift.org announced that the official Swift extension was available on Open VSX, supporting Swift Package Manager projects across macOS, Linux and Windows. It provides code completion, refactoring, debugging, a test explorer and DocC support. Cursor, VSCodium, AWS Kiro and Google Antigravity can install it directly without downloading a separate VSIX file.
