Google Upgrades Gemini’s Mental Health Support and Safeguards for Minors

1 reports · First detected 2026-04-08 · Last active 2026-04-08

Generative AI is increasingly being used to discuss mental health issues such as anxiety and self-harm, but model responses can delay professional intervention. Younger users need additional protection in particular. Google has therefore upgraded Gemini’s crisis-support features to shorten the process of reaching human assistance and reduce the risk that minors encounter inappropriate content or advice.

Google said it is introducing a “one-click” interface in Gemini that allows users experiencing a mental health crisis to quickly access resources such as counseling hotlines, while also strengthening safeguards for minors. Google.org separately pledged $30 million to help hotlines worldwide expand service capacity. The information released so far does not specify an exact launch date or phased rollout schedule.

Google Expands Gemini Data Governance and Vault Legal Holds2026-06-23 · 1 reports · similarity 0.80

Google Vault, Google Workspace’s eDiscovery and information governance tool, could already search and export conversations from the Gemini app. As businesses use generative AI to process internal information, prompts and responses may become evidence in audits or litigation. Bringing AI conversations under unified retention policies is therefore critical to compliance, legal investigations and data-deletion management.

Google announced on June 11, 2026, that Vault could apply default and custom retention rules, for either fixed or indefinite periods, as well as legal holds to Gemini app conversations on the web and mobile devices. On June 16, it added controls for temporary chats and deleted conversation history, enabled by default. Administrative controls began rolling out on June 15, with the user interface following on June 21. Vault rules take precedence over user deletions.
