CHAI Forms Cybersecurity Group to Guide Health Systems on Frontier AI

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-13 · Last active 2026-08-13

Healthcare systems are adopting generative and frontier AI to support clinical decisions and automate administrative work, but the technology also expands exposure to prompt injection, model abuse, data leakage and supply-chain attacks. The nonprofit Coalition for Health AI, or CHAI, brings together healthcare providers, technology companies and researchers to develop responsible-AI standards. Its cybersecurity push matters as hospitals seek to secure increasingly powerful models while protecting patient data and maintaining continuity of care.

CHAI has formed a healthcare AI cybersecurity working group to translate emerging threats into practical defenses for providers. The group plans to publish a series of cybersecurity guidelines and operational playbooks by Dec. 31, 2026, addressing risk mitigation and incident response for frontier AI models. CHAI has not disclosed a budget or membership count for the initiative. The materials are intended to help health systems integrate AI-specific controls into existing governance and security programs.
