Apple Pushes Visual Intelligence as Reported Focus of Cook’s Next AI Phase
Following Vision Pro, Apple is making Visual Intelligence a core part of Apple Intelligence. The feature uses an iPhone camera to identify nearby objects, text and scenes, then provides AI-generated information in real time. Bloomberg reported that Chief Executive Tim Cook sees potential to extend the technology to smart glasses and AirPods, which could determine whether Apple can bring generative AI beyond software services and into wearable hardware.
Cook has recently highlighted Visual Intelligence with increasing frequency. Apple is also reportedly testing AirPods with built-in cameras, with related components entering final validation before mass production. Development of a separate product regarded as the company’s first AI hardware device has reportedly encountered setbacks. As of July 19, 2026, Apple had not announced a formal launch or release date or disclosed research, development or production spending.
