Trump Sued Over Truth Social’s Paid Fast Feed
Truth Social, operated by Donald Trump-controlled Trump Media & Technology Group, has become a key outlet for presidential announcements on tariffs, wars and other market-sensitive US policies. Trump’s licensing agreement gives the platform a six-hour exclusive window before certain posts appear elsewhere. TMTG has further monetized that advantage through Truth API, a low-latency data feed, raising questions about equal access to government information and whether a president may profit from communications generated through public office.
The Freedom of the Press Foundation and The Intercept sued Trump and two aides in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York on Aug. 12, alleging violations of the First and Fifth Amendments. They are seeking to halt Truth API and the platform’s exclusive-access arrangement. TMTG said 10 customers had subscribed at $60,000 to $100,000 a month, potentially generating $7 million to $12 million annually, while the company is also exploring data-licensing agreements with prediction-market platforms.
