AWS CEO Opposes Replacing Entry-Level Workers With AI

Generative AI is reshaping corporate staffing, with entry-level jobs bearing the brunt. A 2025 Stanford University study found that employment among workers aged 22 to 25 had already been affected in occupations with high exposure to AI. If companies cut openings for new recruits, they risk severing the long-term pipeline for developing senior talent and managers. Earlier reports cited no specific monetary amounts.

AWS CEO Matt Garman recently called replacing entry-level workers with AI “the dumbest idea,” warning that it could unbalance a company’s talent structure and ultimately cause it to collapse. Although Amazon continues to deploy AI, it still plans to recruit about 11,000 interns and recent graduates in 2025, underscoring the need to balance efficiency with organizational health.
