Adam Back Says at Consensus 2026 That Bitcoin Is Winning the DeFi Security War
Decentralized finance (DeFi) has suffered repeated smart-contract and cross-chain bridge exploits in recent years, making asset security a major barrier to institutional blockchain adoption. Blockstream CEO Adam Back said Bitcoin's mature base-layer security and Layer-2 architecture could reduce additional risks as tokenized applications expand.
Speaking at Consensus Miami 2026, Back said recent DeFi exploits had further underscored the advantages of Bitcoin infrastructure. He said its Layer-2 systems could support tokenization without compromising security. Back also predicted that sovereign entities and pension funds would drive the next wave of adoption, but gave no investment figures or specific timeline.
