Thailand Launches Siam Silica Strategy to Target AI Chip Supply Chain
Surging investment in generative AI and data centers is lifting demand for chips, advanced packaging and power-management components. Thailand aims to build on its established printed circuit board manufacturing base and move into higher-value semiconductor activities, reducing its dependence on conventional electronics assembly while positioning the country to attract more technology investment.
The Thai government has launched its “Siam Silica” semiconductor strategy, targeting IC design, advanced packaging and power devices for the global AI data-center and infrastructure supply chain. The plan also prioritizes training engineers and other technology specialists to address a large industry talent gap. Officials have not yet disclosed a total investment figure or a detailed implementation timetable.
