Perplexity CEO Highlights Corporate Shift to Open-Source AI and Hybrid Computing

As artificial intelligence moves into practical use, companies deploying AI face the twin challenges of costly chips and the risk of data privacy breaches. Technology companies including Perplexity are therefore accelerating the use of model orchestrators to deploy open-source models. The trend is breaking the dominance of closed-source giants such as OpenAI and shifting the focus of AI competition toward compute efficiency, with “token value per watt” emerging as a key measure of corporate success.

In the latest development, Perplexity AI CEO Srinivas and Intel jointly unveiled hybrid computing technology using Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors at COMPUTEX Taipei in June 2026, enabling tasks to be processed locally or routed elsewhere. Perplexity’s valuation rose to about $22.6 billion in January 2026, and the company plans to go public through an IPO in 2028.
