Open-source AI models generally make their weights, code or some technical details publicly available, allowing companies and developers to deploy, fine-tune and integrate them independently. Recent releases include Kimi K3, Soofi S, Inkling, Tencent's Hy3 and Zhipu AI's GLM-5.2. Their performance in coding, long-context reasoning and enterprise applications continues to improve, spurring advances in proprietary chips, inference acceleration and hybrid computing. Open source is reshaping model pricing and dependence on vendors while also influencing U.S.-China technology competition, sovereign AI, cybersecurity, regulation and market concentration.
