Square Lets Cardholders Pay Vendors That Don’t Accept Cards

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-12 · Last active 2026-08-12

Block Inc.’s Square launched the Square Credit Card in 2023 for eligible U.S. sellers, with Celtic Bank issuing the product on the American Express network. Extending the card into Square Bill Pay addresses a persistent small-business constraint: major operating expenses such as rent, insurance and supplier invoices are often payable only by bank transfer or check. The integration lets merchants use available credit for those obligations, preserving cash longer while consolidating payments within Square’s financial platform.

Square added the credit card as a Bill Pay funding option on July 23, 2026. A merchant can charge an eligible vendor bill to the Square Credit Card even when the recipient does not accept cards; Square then delivers the funds by ACH transfer or check. Square charges 1.5% per payment, while the card earns 1.5% cash back on purchases. ACH funds generally arrive within one to two business days, while mailed paper checks are expected in four to six business days.
