BNY Builds 24/7 Rails With Tokenized Treasuries and Deposits
U.S. Treasuries underpin global collateral markets, but trading and settlement remain tied to conventional operating hours, creating funding gaps over weekends. BNY is using blockchain-based tokenization to keep government debt, cash and deposits moving around the clock. The initiative matters because connecting tokenized assets with regulated custody and bank money could give institutional clients a continuous financial rail rather than a separate digital-asset system.
BNY has taken custody roles for reserves backing the RLUSD stablecoin and for OpenEden’s tokenized U.S. Treasury fund. It has also introduced tokenized deposits that allow institutional clients to transfer bank funds on-chain, supporting its goal of 24/7 settlement and removing the weekend lag in Treasuries. As of July 23, 2026, the report had not disclosed the assets’ value, transaction volumes or a date for full-scale deployment.
