Best Buy Rolls Out Ask Blue, Completes OpenAI Commerce Integration
Best Buy is embedding generative AI into an omnichannel strategy aimed at making complex technology purchases easier as shoppers remain selective about big-ticket spending. Ask Blue brings product information, customer reviews, availability, pricing and support into a conversational interface. The move expands the electronics retailer’s role beyond product search and in-store advice, while its OpenAI partnership turns ChatGPT into another channel for product discovery and transactions.
Best Buy said on Aug. 27, 2026, that it had begun a phased rollout of Ask Blue, which can compare products, identify key differences, check fit or compatibility, and route users to self-service help or a live specialist. The company also completed its commerce integration with OpenAI, enabling customers to discover products, receive recommendations and complete Best Buy purchases inside ChatGPT. Fiscal second-quarter comparable sales rose 4.1% in the period ended Aug. 1, prompting Best Buy to lift its full-year comparable-sales outlook to growth of 1.9% to 3.0%.
