Apple Pushes Siri Engineers to Adopt AI Coding Tools to Speed Development

Apple is overhauling its development process for an AI-powered version of Siri. The assistant was delayed after technical integration and development fell short of expectations. With other Apple divisions already using AI coding tools, the voice-assistant team’s productivity gap has drawn greater attention. Delivering the new Siri on schedule is also important to Apple’s competitiveness in the generative AI market.

Apple plans to put Siri engineers through a training camp lasting several weeks, where they will learn to use AI tools to write, review and compile code and accelerate development and testing of the new Siri. The company has not disclosed the start date, number of participants, training budget or exact launch date for the new Siri. The move nevertheless shows Apple is directly addressing the earlier delays.
