SK Hynix Weighs Chongqing Plant Sale to Double Down on HBM

SK Hynix, one of the world’s largest memory-chip makers, operates the Chongqing facility to package and test NAND flash products in China. The potential divestment comes as conventional NAND remains exposed to sharp pricing cycles and thinner margins, while demand for high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, is accelerating alongside investment in generative AI servers and advanced computing infrastructure.

As of Aug. 12, 2026, SK Hynix was evaluating a sale of its NAND packaging and testing plant in Chongqing, according to the latest report. The company had not disclosed a prospective buyer, transaction value or timetable. The review is being viewed as a move to shift capital, production capacity and engineering resources toward faster-growing AI memory products, particularly HBM, though no final sale decision has been announced.
