Zimbabwe Regulator Admits Seven Fintech Projects to Sandbox
Zimbabwe’s Securities and Exchange Commission, or SECZ, uses a regulatory sandbox to let financial technology firms test products under supervision before seeking full market access. The framework is intended to balance innovation with investor protection and could help deepen the country’s capital markets. Most of the selected projects focus on blockchain-based capital raising and asset tokenisation, technologies that may broaden funding channels for companies and expand access to investable assets.
SECZ has admitted seven fintech projects to its latest sandbox cohort for controlled testing and regulatory assessment. The reports did not disclose the approval date, testing timetable, project-level investment amounts or the applicants’ names. The regulator cautioned that admission is not a commercial licence: completing the sandbox process does not guarantee registration for full operations, and each project must still satisfy the applicable requirements before it can launch broadly in Zimbabwe.
