Hackers Hijack Robinhood CEO’s X Account to Promote Memecoin

2 reports · First detected 2026-07-24 · Last active 2026-07-24

Robinhood Chain went live on July 1 as an Ethereum Layer 2 built on Arbitrum Orbit, with a strategy centered on tokenized stocks and other real-world assets. Yet speculative memecoins, led by Cashcat, quickly became its dominant use case. The episode shows how the network’s rapid growth and Robinhood’s consumer brand can be exploited to lend credibility to risky tokens, complicating the brokerage’s push to bring retail users into onchain finance.

At about 17:24 UTC on July 23, a post from CEO Vlad Tenev’s compromised X account claimed Vladhood (VLAD) would become the “official Robinhood Chain mascot” and be listed in the Robinhood app, while sharing a contract address. Neither Robinhood nor Robinhood Crypto echoed the announcement. Robinhood Chain’s explorer labeled the token a “potential scam” after roughly 1,868 transactions. Entropy Advisors said the chain was processing about 6 million transactions a day and had accumulated roughly $9 billion in DEX volume, driven mainly by higher-risk memecoins.

Robinhood Chain Memecoin Launchpad Halts Over Internal Integrity Issue2026-07-16 · 1 reports · similarity 0.80

Online brokerage Robinhood launched Robinhood Chain, a new Ethereum Layer 2 network, in July 2026 to develop tokenized real-world assets, though memecoins dominated its initial trading surge. Vlad.fun emerged as the chain's most closely watched memecoin launchpad. As a flagship application on the new network, its performance and security directly affect user confidence in the ecosystem.

Vlad.fun suspended operations on July 16, just five days after Robinhood Chain's public launch on July 11, 2026. The project said it urgently took the platform offline for a comprehensive investigation after discovering serious internal integrity issues and misconduct involving a team member during a token launch. It is consulting legal counsel and preparing to take legal action against those responsible.

Robinhood Founder Exposes Seed Phrase on Livestream, Hacker Pumps Meme Coins2026-07-13 · 1 reports · similarity 0.86

US online brokerage Robinhood has aggressively expanded its cryptocurrency business in recent years, making founder Vlad Tenev an influential figure in financial technology. A crypto wallet's seed phrase is effectively the sole key to controlling its funds, making its protection critical. The incident exposed shortcomings in personal security practices and highlighted the potential risks of self-custody blockchain wallets.

Tenev accidentally exposed a wallet seed phrase during a livestream in July 2026, allowing a hacker to seize control. The attacker used the trusted address to aggressively pump meme coins, then moved across chains to issue a new token on BNB Chain and cash out. The activity generated nearly $20 million in trading volume within just two hours and triggered significant market volatility. The funds in the wallet have since been transferred.
