Apple’s Brand Strength Cushions Price Hikes as It Weighs AI Model Compression Technology

1 reports · First detected 2026-07-15 · Last active 2026-07-15

Apple is under pressure from soaring memory and storage-chip costs as AI data centers expand worldwide, prompting it to raise prices for several MacBook and iPad models in June 2026. Analysts said Apple’s exceptionally strong brand loyalty and pricing power mean consumers are likely to keep buying even if prices for future iPhones rise by more than US$200. That gives the company a major advantage in passing higher supply-chain costs on to customers.

Apple is in talks with startup PrismML to adopt AI model compression technology and strengthen on-device computing. Using extreme quantization algorithms, the technology has compressed a model with as many as 27 billion parameters from 54GB to less than 4GB. The advance could allow large AI models to run efficiently on smartphones and enhance Siri while lowering cloud-computing costs and further protecting user privacy.
