Taiwan’s Monthly Credit Card Bills Rise More Than 30% in a Decade, With 40–49 Age Group Spending the Most
Credit card statistics from Taiwan’s Joint Credit Information Center track changes in card ownership, spending and revolving-credit burdens. The average amount due per household has risen more than 33% over the past decade, reflecting the spread of electronic payments, higher prices and changing spending habits. The increase also highlights concerns about household cash flow and credit card debt risks.
The center’s latest data showed that the average credit card balance due per household reached NT$38,500 in January 2026. People aged 40 to 49 held an average of 5.55 credit cards and owed NT$49,000, the highest figures among all age groups. The statistics also showed that average revolving credit for each household in this age group was about NT$12,000.
