Taiwan Launches National Lab to Certify FHIR Box and Medical AI

Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare has established a national laboratory for digital-health interoperability and performance certification, aiming to reduce the integration barriers created by fragmented hospital information systems, or HIS. The facility will provide a standardized testing environment based on Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, or FHIR, as Taiwan seeks to improve the reliability of health-data exchange and accelerate the deployment of clinical artificial intelligence applications.

The laboratory will introduce a national certification regime covering FHIR Box hardware, software and implementation vendors. Testing will assess whether the systems can connect with existing HIS platforms, exchange data using FHIR standards, and reliably execute clinical decision rules and AI computing workflows. The ministry also plans to begin an all-optical network pilot in November, extending the program to test the transmission capacity and performance needed for data-intensive digital-health services.
