Card-Only Checkouts Cost Latin American Merchants Customers
Latin America’s payments market is fragmented by country, with consumer preferences, local rails and regulatory requirements varying sharply across the region. ACI Worldwide and dLocal say wallets, instant payments and bank transfers now account for about half of online transactions. Merchants relying solely on cards risk excluding shoppers who depend on familiar local options, undermining trust, checkout conversion and revenue in some of the region’s fastest-growing digital commerce markets.
ACI Worldwide and dLocal announced a partnership on July 28, 2026, giving merchants a single connection through the ACI Payments Orchestration Platform to six local methods across Brazil and Mexico, including Pix, PicPay, Mercado Pago, NuPay, OXXO and SPEI. Pix alone has more than 170 million users, covering about 95% of Brazil’s adult population. Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru are planned for the next phase, though the companies have not disclosed a launch date.
