Kevin Warsh’s Fed Chair Nomination Draws Scrutiny Over AI Optimism and Crypto Investments
Kevin Warsh served as a Federal Reserve governor from 2006 to 2011. He argues that AI can boost productivity and curb inflation, giving the Fed room to cut interest rates, while balance-sheet reductions can restrain liquidity. His proposed combination of quantitative tightening and rate cuts could affect dollar interest rates and global asset valuations. It has also prompted scrutiny of whether his technology and crypto investments could influence his regulatory judgment.
Donald Trump announced Warsh as his choice on January 30, 2026, and the White House formally nominated him on March 4. The U.S. Senate confirmed him as a governor on May 12 and as chair on May 13, and Warsh was sworn in on May 22. An April 14 disclosure showed that he and his wife held at least $192 million in assets, including investments in SpaceX, Polymarket and the Ethereum ecosystem. He pledged to sell most of the related holdings.
