Prediction-Market Consolidation Could Spur Fintech and Crypto M&A Wave
Prediction markets once relied on separate external exchanges, clearinghouses and brokerage distribution channels. Platforms are now bringing trading, clearing, brokerage and user distribution under one roof. Bernstein said this is pushing crypto platforms, sports-betting operators and brokerages into the same competitive market. Acquisitions could quickly add licenses, technology and customers, but could also intensify antitrust concerns and jurisdictional conflicts among financial and gambling regulators.
Bernstein said on June 29, 2026, that Robinhood had routed its World Cup contracts to Rothera, its joint venture with Susquehanna. Kalshi and Polymarket control trading and clearing infrastructure but have weaker distribution capabilities, potentially making either company a buyer or an acquisition target. They are valued at about $22 billion and $15 billion, respectively, though the report disclosed no actual transaction value.
