Taiwan’s 16 Financial Institutions Launch FinLLM Project to Build Homegrown Financial AI Model
CTBC Financial Holding is leading 16 Taiwanese financial institutions in a financial large language model project known as FinLLM. The initiative aims to develop homegrown AI that understands Taiwan’s regulations, financial terminology and business contexts. Cross-institutional data and technology collaboration will strengthen sovereign AI, reduce the financial sector’s reliance on overseas models, and address cybersecurity, regulatory compliance and data governance requirements.
The first version of FinLLM is expected to be released in August, with deployment in the financial sector possible by year-end. The project also plans to launch AI agents capable of performing multistep tasks in 2026. Participation has reached 16 financial institutions, but the investment amount, full list of participants and formal launch dates at individual banks have not been disclosed.
