Wallet Data Leak Hits 54,000 Users as CLARITY Odds Sink to 10%
Data breaches affecting users of cryptocurrency wallet providers including Trezor and SafePal underscore that self-custody does not eliminate risks beyond the blockchain. Exposed personal information can help criminals craft convincing phishing messages designed to steal recovery phrases or account credentials, potentially turning a privacy lapse into losses of digital assets. The incident adds to security concerns facing an industry already contending with an uncertain US regulatory framework.
About 54,000 wallet users were affected by the latest data exposure and could now face targeted phishing attempts. Separately, Galaxy Digital cut its estimate of the CLARITY crypto market-structure bill’s chance of passage to 10%, citing a crowded congressional calendar and political divisions. If Congress fails to act, the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission are expected to advance cryptocurrency rules through their own regulatory processes.
