OpenAI Finds No Clear Link Between Corporate AI Use and Revenue Per Employee
Companies have poured resources into generative AI on the assumption that broader adoption will translate into higher productivity and revenue. OpenAI’s latest research examined how ChatGPT is adopted and used inside businesses, comparing usage intensity with revenue per employee. The analysis found no statistically significant relationship between the two measures, challenging the idea that heavier AI use alone is evidence of improved corporate performance.
The report also found that the heaviest ChatGPT users were concentrated among employees in the earlier stages of their careers, while senior executives used the technology less frequently. OpenAI did not assign a dollar value to productivity gains or conclude that AI cannot improve individual tasks. Instead, the latest findings show that, as of the report’s publication, companies had yet to establish a measurable link between more intensive AI use and higher revenue per employee.
