Bolt, Lucid Target 25,000 Robotaxis Across Europe
Europe has lagged the United States and China in commercial robotaxi deployment as operators navigate fragmented regulation, liability rules and the challenge of building fleets at scale. Bolt operates across more than 50 countries and 850 cities, while Lucid specializes in software-defined electric-vehicle platforms. Their planned fleet would bring SAE Level 4 technology — capable of driving without human intervention within defined operating areas — to Europe’s mainstream ride-hailing market on an unprecedented scale.
Lucid and Bolt announced the strategic partnership on Sept. 17, 2026, saying they would jointly develop an ADS-ready vehicle based on Lucid’s forthcoming Midsize platform and expected to use NVIDIA Hyperion. Bolt plans to own and operate at least 25,000 vehicles across major European cities, advancing its goal of hosting 100,000 autonomous vehicles by 2035. The companies did not disclose the investment value, launch cities or a timetable for commercial service and said they would work with technology partners and European regulators.
