OpenAI Launches Finance-Focused ChatGPT Powered by GPT-6 Astra

3 reports · First detected 2026-09-11 · Last active 2026-09-11

Financial institutions have become a key battleground for enterprise AI because research depends on licensed data, traceable sources and strict controls for confidential information. OpenAI is positioning ChatGPT for Financial Services as a governed workspace for investment bankers and equity researchers, not merely a general-purpose chatbot. The product also sharpens its competition with Anthropic, which launched Claude for Financial Services in July 2025, as AI developers pursue higher-value corporate customers and seek a larger role in regulated workflows.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT for Financial Services on Sept. 10, 2026, after developing it with Morgan Stanley and Evercore as design partners. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, it bundles data from Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News and Crunchbase while supporting more than 50 connectors and firms’ existing subscriptions. Users can research across sources, build financial models and produce Excel, Word and PowerPoint materials in company templates. OpenAI said Astra scored 69.9% on OfficeQA Pro versus 60.2% for GPT-5.6 Sol. Access is limited to eligible financial institutions, and pricing was not disclosed.

ChatGPT Adds Personal Finance Tools Through Plaid, Connecting More Than 10,000 Financial Institutionsfirst seen 2026-05-16 · 4 reports · similarity 0.77 · same topic: ChatGPT

OpenAI says more than 200 million people worldwide use ChatGPT each month for budgeting, investing and financial planning. Its partnership with financial data platform Plaid takes generative AI beyond general-purpose queries and into personal asset management. The system consolidates bank, credit-card and investment data on a read-only basis, while also drawing greater scrutiny to financial privacy and accountability for AI-generated advice.

OpenAI launched a U.S. preview on May 15, 2026, initially limiting access on the web and iOS to ChatGPT Pro subscribers paying $200 a month. The feature uses GPT-5.5 Thinking. Plaid currently supports more than 9,600 financial institutions, a figure set to exceed 12,000 after its Intuit integration. The tool can analyze spending, bills and investments, and synchronized data is deleted within 30 days after an account is disconnected.
