Plaid, Sierra Bring Bank Account Linking to AI Agents
Plaid provides the data infrastructure connecting applications to more than 12,000 financial institutions, while Sierra builds AI customer-service agents for large enterprises. Sierra said on May 4, 2026, that it raised $950 million at a valuation exceeding $15 billion, underscoring investor demand for agents that can carry out business processes rather than merely answer questions. Access to verified financial data is particularly important in regulated workflows such as lending and insurance.
Plaid and Sierra announced the integration on Aug. 3, 2026. Sierra agents can now ask users for explicit permission through Plaid Link, connect their bank accounts within a conversation and use income and spending data to advance loan applications, insurance claims or fraud cases. The system can also support financial verification and payments, with compliance checks, response monitoring and human intervention built into the process. The companies did not disclose financial terms for the partnership.
