Airbnb CEO’s X Account Hacked to Post AI-Generated Tokenization Slop

2 reports · First detected 2026-07-17 · Last active 2026-07-17

The incident highlights the persistent threat to prominent accounts on the social media platform X. As CEO of global lodging company Airbnb, Brian Chesky commands significant influence. With generative AI becoming widely available, hackers are increasingly using it to produce seemingly professional promotional content about tokenization and blockchain instead of relying on conventional malicious scam links. The shift exposes a new challenge for social media platforms and cybersecurity defenses, drawing attention across the technology industry.

Chesky’s X account was hacked on July 16, 2026. The attacker used it to publish several AI-generated spam posts promoting the tokenization of real-world assets. The thread attracted more than 700,000 views before it was deleted. Chesky regained control of the account on July 17 and responded with a humorous post, while Airbnb worked with X to strengthen security protections.
