Nvidia CEO Urges US to Allow Chinese Open-Source AI Models

Competition between the US and China is increasingly shaping access to generative AI, turning the use of Chinese-developed open-source models into a debate over security, technological independence and commercial competitiveness. Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang argues that cheaper, openly available models can lower adoption barriers, expand AI use and ultimately generate more demand for data-center computing and the broader artificial-intelligence ecosystem.

Huang said in a recent interview that US companies should be allowed to use Chinese open-source AI models such as Kimi K3. He argued that rapid testing would help users identify and patch vulnerabilities, improving safety rather than weakening it. Huang also said lower model costs would stimulate additional AI demand and support industry growth. The report did not provide a policy timetable, investment amount or quantitative results from model testing.
