Chime Launches In-App Investing With $1 Minimum

2 reports · First detected 2026-07-21 · Last active 2026-07-22

Chime built its business around low-fee, app-based banking for mainstream U.S. consumers, but investing had remained outside its core spending and savings experience. Bringing brokerage and managed portfolios into the same app is a bid to deepen customer relationships and lower barriers to wealth building. The opportunity is sizable: Gallup’s April 2026 survey found that 58% of U.S. adults owned stock, meaning roughly four in 10 did not.

Chime said on July 20, 2026, that Chime Invest would let members start with $1, trade a broad range of U.S. stocks and ETFs commission-free, or use diversified portfolios managed by SEC-registered adviser Atomic Invest. Managed portfolios carry annual fees of 0% for Chime Prime members, 0.10% for Chime Plus and 0.25% for others. General access is due to roll out over the coming weeks, with investment accounts eligible for SIPC protection of up to $500,000.
