AWS, Google Cloud Launch New HPC Services Powered by AMD’s Fifth-Generation EPYC
Cloud-based high-performance computing allows companies and research institutions to run compute-intensive workloads, including climate simulations, drug development and engineering analysis, without building their own supercomputers. AWS and Google Cloud’s adoption of AMD’s fifth-generation EPYC processors, code-named Turin, underscores AMD’s continued data-center expansion. Both providers also use dedicated offloading and low-latency networking to ease cross-node communication bottlenecks.
AWS launched EC2 Hpc8a on February 16, 2026, offering 192 cores, 768 GiB of memory and 300 Gbps EFA, with performance up to 40% higher than Hpc7a. Google Cloud formally made H4D available on March 4, 2026, with 192 vCPUs, up to 1,488 GB of memory and 200 Gbps Cloud RDMA. Neither company disclosed an investment amount.
