Meta Launches Meta One Subscriptions With Expanded AI Access
Meta Platforms has long relied on advertising for most of its revenue, and Meta One marks a push to build recurring sales around services used by billions. The subscription combines premium features for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp with higher limits for compute-intensive Meta AI tools powered by Muse models. It targets individuals, AI power users, creators and businesses, while the company says the core experience across its apps and Meta AI will remain free.
Meta said on Sept. 15, 2026, that Meta One was launching globally with more than 50 features after subscriptions and trials surpassed 15 million. Monthly prices start at $2.99 for a single app, $7.99 for individual bundles and $14.99 for creator and business packages. In Taiwan, the respective starting prices are NT$49, NT$199 and NT$459 through in-app purchases. The plans increase access to AI image editing, video generation and Instagram’s Restyle tools, with Edits and AI glasses slated to join later.

The history behind this eventMeta’s AI Smart-Glasses Subscription Plan Sparks Controversy
Meta and EssilorLuxottica jointly launched Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Their Conversation Focus feature uses a microphone array to amplify the voice of the person speaking and reduce ambient noise on the device. Although the feature does not rely on cloud computing, it has been placed behind a paid plan. The move highlights a model in which companies sell hardware and then generate further revenue through software subscriptions, while raising user concerns about restrictions on existing features.
The restrictions came to light on July 1, 2026: free users can access Conversation Focus for only three hours a month, while a $19.99-a-month Meta One Premium subscription raises the limit to 15 hours. Unused hours do not roll over. Meta said on July 2 that subscription revenue would fund continued AI development and support for advanced devices, while core AI features would remain free.
Meta Launches Plus Subscriptions and Advanced Meta One AI Plans
Meta has long relied on advertising to keep Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp free, while exploring subscription revenue in recent years through Meta Verified. Its new Meta One brand brings premium social features and advanced AI plans under one paid ecosystem, diversifying revenue beyond advertising while shifting some generative AI computing costs to power users. Core features across all three apps will remain free.
Meta announced the global rollout of Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus on May 27, 2026, priced at $3.99, $3.99 and $2.99 a month, respectively. Testing of the AI plans will begin in June. Meta One Plus will cost $7.99 a month and Premium $19.99, offering greater computing capacity for deep reasoning and more image and video generation.
