SEC Delays Tokenized U.S. Stocks Proposal as Bitcoin Falls to $75K
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission had planned to create a compliant pathway for tokenized U.S. stocks in 2026 through an “innovation exemption,” allowing equity interests to be issued and traded via blockchain. Because the mechanism touches on investor protection, market resilience and traditional securities rules, its direction is also seen as a key indicator for real-world asset tokenization.
The SEC recently delayed its draft “innovation exemption” after market participants raised concerns about trading security and regulatory integrity. The measure may also lack the durability of formal legislation. The news weakened confidence in asset tokenization, with Bitcoin falling to about $75,000 over the July 18–19, 2026 weekend and Ether dropping by more than 3%.
