Anthropic Sued Over Allegedly Misleading Claude Max Usage Claims

Anthropic launched Claude Max on April 9, 2025, offering $100 and $200 monthly plans that it said provided five and 20 times the usage of its $20-a-month Pro plan, respectively. Amid the high inference costs of generative AI, the plans did not disclose a clear method for calculating tokens, putting the transparency of subscription usage limits at the center of the dispute.

Washington, D.C., user Karl Kahn sued Anthropic in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on June 14, 2026, seeking to represent Claude Max users nationwide in a class action. The complaint alleges that Max 5x provides only about 3.5 times the usage of Pro, while Max 20x delivers just six to eight times as much. It seeks refunds and damages and asks Anthropic to stop the allegedly misleading advertising.
