Crypto Billionaires Give Reform UK £72 Million in Record Donations

Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, has drawn increasing financial support from entrepreneurs linked to the cryptocurrency industry. The growing concentration of donations among a small number of wealthy backers has intensified concern over whether crypto money could shape the party’s positions on financial regulation and wider UK policy. Farage is also facing an investigation connected to donations from several crypto-industry figures.

UK Electoral Commission data showed BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo donated about £4 million to Reform UK in the second quarter of 2026, accounting for nearly 75% of the party’s total donations during the period. The contribution, described in reports as another £4 million from Delo, underscores the scale of his financial support and has renewed scrutiny of transparency and potential donor influence over the party.

Christopher Harborne, a billionaire active in the cryptocurrency industry, gave Nigel Farage £5 million, or about $6.7 million. The dispute centers on whether Farage was required under parliamentary rules on registering interests to disclose the payment after he was elected to Parliament on July 4, 2024.

The UK Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards recently formally opened an investigation into whether Farage breached the rules by failing to declare the donation. Farage argues that no disclosure was required because he received the money before his election. Separate reports said he bought a property worth about $1.8 million after receiving the funds, drawing scrutiny from the Conservative Party and the UK Electoral Commission.

BitMEX co-founder Ben Delo is a prominent figure in Britain's crypto industry, while Nigel Farage's Reform UK has sought to expand its political influence in recent years. The large donation has drawn attention as Britain considers suspending political parties' acceptance of cryptoasset donations, citing concerns over foreign interference and opaque funding sources.

In an April 8, 2026 opinion piece in The Telegraph, Delo said he had donated about £4 million, or roughly $5.1 million, to Reform UK since the start of the year. He did not say whether the donations were made in fiat currency or cryptoassets. Delo also backed a government suspension of crypto political donations. On April 7, the UK Electoral Commission said such donations remain legal but must be reported at their sterling value when received, with the donor's identity verified.

The contribution boosted the party's total political donations for 2025, taking its annual fundraising above that of both the Conservative Party and the Labour Party. It also brought the financial ties between Farage and wealthy cryptocurrency investors under closer scrutiny.
