Mastercard Expands Merchant Tools for AI-Powered Shopping
Generative AI is pushing online retail beyond product recommendations toward agentic shopping, in which software can search, compare and potentially complete purchases for consumers. That shift requires merchants to make product information, checkout systems and payment infrastructure accessible to AI services. Mastercard is expanding its role in that emerging ecosystem by offering tools designed to lower integration barriers and support new digital-commerce experiences.
Mastercard recently announced a suite of tools intended to help businesses and merchants build, connect and scale AI-powered shopping services. The offering is aimed at making agentic capabilities easier to integrate with existing commerce operations and accelerating adoption across the retail sector. The supplied reports did not specify an exact launch date, investment amount, pricing or merchant adoption figures, leaving execution and uptake as the key measures to watch.

The history behind this eventMastercard and DBS Bank Complete Taiwan’s First Agentic AI Payment
Agentic AI payments allow AI systems, with consumers’ authorization, to search for options, make selections and complete payments on their behalf. The key challenges are authenticating the agent’s identity, protecting card data and preserving user control. Mastercard launched Agent Pay in the United States in 2025 and expanded it to Asia-Pacific in 2026. Its collaboration with DBS Bank (Taiwan) marks the formal entry of AI-powered commerce into real-world transactions in Taiwan.
On March 26, 2026, Mastercard and DBS Bank (Taiwan) announced that they had completed Taiwan’s first authenticated agentic AI transaction. The transaction amount was not disclosed. A consumer entered the pickup and drop-off locations, time and number of passengers for an airport transfer into an AI chat interface. After matching available options, the AI booked and paid for the consumer’s selection with authorization using a linked Mastercard, while a Mastercard Agentic Token authenticated the agent’s identity.
