AI Boom Drives Taiwan Stock Market Transformation and Active ETF Fundraising

2 reports · First detected 2026-06-17 · Last active 2026-06-17

AI capital spending is driving upgrades across Taiwan’s supply chains for advanced chips, servers and components. It is also drawing investor interest to actively managed ETFs, which offer greater stock-picking flexibility. As of the end of May 2026, Taiwan had 18 actively managed equity ETFs with combined assets of NT$771.7 billion, prompting First Securities Investment Trust to launch a second product targeting companies with both earnings and dividend growth.

First Securities Investment Trust’s 00408A will be offered from June 24 to 30, 2026, at NT$10 per unit, with a minimum subscription of NT$10,000. Chief Investment Officer Chang Cheng-ting said the TAIEX could reach 50,000 points by year-end. Fund manager Chang Cheng-chung said Taiwan stocks trade at about 22 times earnings, roughly half the 42 times recorded during the dot-com bubble in 2000. Bloomberg estimates earnings per share will grow 40%–50% this year, with about 30% growth potential remaining in 2027.

Actively managed Taiwan equity ETFs allow fund managers to adjust holdings as market conditions change. They have become an important vehicle for investing in Taiwanese stocks as interest in the AI supply chain and technology shares has grown in recent years. Capital Investment Trust said funds are rotating from large-cap bellwethers into small- and mid-cap stocks and thematic sectors. Active stock selection could help capture this structural shift, although geopolitical and market volatility risks remain.

As of March 31, 2026, the launch of the Mega Taiwan Harvest Active ETF (00996A) brought the number of active Taiwan equity ETFs to 12. Their combined unitholder count reached 1,040,887, setting a record for the 23rd consecutive week. Six funds also posted record unitholder numbers. The Capital Technology Innovation Active ETF (00992A) led year-to-date performance with a 27.13% gain. Fund manager Chen Chao-cheng is bullish on AI servers, advanced processes, thermal management, networking PCBs and power supplies.
