Citi Uses AI to Cut Account-Opening Review Time by 80%
Citigroup is expanding its use of artificial intelligence to automate about 50 processes, including customer and employee onboarding and know-your-customer (KYC) checks. Opening a bank account requires identity and compliance documents to be verified, making the process time-consuming and labor-intensive. Faster reviews can therefore reduce operating costs and improve the customer experience.
The latest development shows that Citi's U.S. services unit has cut the processing time for each application from 1 hour and 15 minutes to 15 minutes by using AI to review account-opening documents. That represents a full 1-hour reduction, or 80%. The bank did not disclose a formal launch date, the amount invested or the number of customers currently covered.
