Winbond's June Revenue Hits Record as Legacy Memory Shortage Seen Lasting Through 2028
Winbond Electronics is a major Taiwanese memory manufacturer whose products include specialty DRAM and NOR Flash. As global chipmakers shift capacity to high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, and advanced processes, supplies of legacy memory are tightening and prices have entered an upswing. Winbond expects the structural shortage could last through 2028 and plans to expand its cleanroom capacity and issue global depositary receipts, or GDRs, to fund production expansion.
Winbond's revenue rose 189.88% year on year in June 2026, setting another monthly record. Cumulative revenue in the first half of 2026 also increased 139.2% from the same period in 2025, reflecting higher shipments and prices as legacy memory supply and demand tightened. The company has yet to disclose the investment required for the cleanroom expansion or the amount it plans to raise through the GDR issue. Capital spending, the timetable for new capacity and memory pricing trends will be key indicators of its performance.
