Prediction Markets Bet OpenAI Will Launch Astra Within Weeks

OpenAI’s Preparedness Framework classifies a model as having Critical cybersecurity capability when it can autonomously identify and develop zero-day exploits across hardened real-world systems, or execute novel end-to-end attacks from a high-level objective. Astra is the company’s first model to receive that designation. OpenAI is reportedly testing a new pretrained foundation model code-named Astra, fueling expectations of a major upgrade to the technology underpinning future ChatGPT products. Trading data from Polymarket and Myriad now indicate a 78% probability that OpenAI will publicly release GPT-6 by Sept. 30, 2026, reflecting growing market enthusiasm for the next generation of its flagship technology. OpenAI has not announced GPT-6, disclosed specifications or provided a launch date. The contract-implied odds could therefore shift sharply as traders adjust positions or new information emerges, leaving the September timeline speculative despite the recent rise in confidence.
