Tether Invests in Argentine Neobank Ualá to Expand in Latin America
Stablecoin issuer Tether has recently begun channeling profits into investments in Latin America's emerging markets. Against a backdrop of high inflation and expanding digital finance in the region, Argentine neobank Ualá has emerged as a key bridge in Tether's push to connect traditional finance with crypto assets. The investment underscores the trend toward integration between conventional banking and virtual assets.
Tether confirmed in July this year that it had invested $20 million in Ualá. The investment formed part of the $197 million funding round Ualá announced in March, which valued the neobank at $3.2 billion. Founder Barbieri said, however, that regulatory constraints meant the platform would not integrate the USDT stablecoin in the near term. For now, the funding is purely a financial investment.
