Financial Firms Back Digital ID Systems Despite Verification Friction

1 reports · First detected 2026-08-21 · Last active 2026-08-21

Digital identity verification and know-your-customer systems have become critical infrastructure as financial institutions move more business and revenue online. Banks and other providers must confirm identities and meet anti-money-laundering obligations without adding enough friction to drive customers away. The challenge is increasingly central to fintech strategy, requiring firms to balance fast onboarding and consistent decisions against fraud and compliance risks.

A recent survey found that 83% of financial services firms rated their digital identity and KYC systems positively. Yet nearly 75% reported inconsistent verification outcomes, highlighting a gap between confidence in the technology and customers’ experience of it. The findings suggest providers still need to reduce false decisions and streamline identity checks while preserving safeguards as digital channels account for a growing share of revenue.
